Episode XXXI - Would the real M.C Keating please stand up!

Week 31 - 12.5.10, 13.5.10 and 14.5.10

On Wednesday i was to take part in a Degree project band, singing light Hip Hop hits. As an Instrumental Instructor, i need to be versatile and not just be fluent in one instrument. This gave me the opportunity to work on my vocals. The gig was in Dundee and i thought it went really well. One little thing though, the camera didn't record us! It was like we never played! All that effort.... I hear there might be audio recorded which is a day brightener. After the gig, i had to run straight to the train station to get a bus from Perth so i could make the 11am Funeral back home for my mate Mike Paterson. Due to this i had to miss both Thursday and Friday to grieve properly. I am confident i will be back to my normal self next week.

Episode XXX - Rest in Peace

Week 30 - 5.5.10, 6.5.10 and 7.5.10

This week, my close friend of mine, Mike Paterson died in a car accident back home. This effected my focus and concentration in all aspects of my life. I therefore did not achieve much during this week.

Episode XXVIII & XXIX

Week 28 - 21.4.10, 22.4.10 & 23.4.10
Week 29 - 28.4.10, 29.4.10 &30.4.10

College

In first study, i have managed to complete my two original compositions, 'Scenes of a Nightmare' and 'Memories of China'. Both contain rich harmony and display my abilities on the guitar and my ability to compose. In being an Instrumental Instructor, i may be asked by pupils how to compose original material. I believe that to progress on an instrument, you must be able to look away from sheet music sometimes and just create music.
Although my Rock School did not go ahead, i have collected all of my lesson plans and teaching materials and added them to my Graded Unit folder.
During these two weeks, i have been helping a friend by teaching them the ways of Microsoft Power Point. This has helped my teaching ability as i have not taught to someone my own age before in this one on one style. I felt i handled the situation correctly and now my friend has created a very impressive power point on their own.
I have also updated my day plans to include realistic times for my own free time and college work. Before i was being unrealistic and thinking i could spend a whole weekend doing what i wished! I have learned from this mistake and i now follow a strict but realistic day plan. In being an Instrumental Instructor, i must master the skill of both time keeping and organisation to make my lessons as efficient as possible.
